Delaware Equine Council Offers Scholarships

DEC logoDelaware Equine Council’s contributions to the equine and agricultural community are numerous and the scholarship program is one of the Council’s favorite projects.  This scholarship is awarded to one or more individuals who meet the criteria listed in the DEC Scholarship rules below.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, or a legal resident alien, and a Delaware resident or DEC member. ($20.00 for individual membership)
  •  Must be enrolled and in good standing at an agricultural or equine course of study or related field, or a veterinary or vet tech program in the United States and have completed, or are about to complete, one full semester.

If you are interested in applying for the scholarship, the process is simple and straightforward.  Please follow this link to the website to download the application http://delawareequinecouncil.org/ScholarshipPAGE.html.  Tell all your relatives, friends, clients about this opportunity.  The deadline for applications is January 31st, 2015.  Be sure to get your application in on-time.  In 2014, DEC awarded five $1000 scholarships to deserving students at their annual scholarship dinner held in March.

Delaware Equine Council Member Appreciation Day September 28

The Delaware Equine Council is holding their member appreciation day on Sunday, September 28th at Redden State Forest Headquarters Tract.  Both members and non members are welcome to ride, drive or hike the trails that are suitable for all abilities.  Current members are admitted free and may bring one guest free of charge.  Non members pay $20 and automatically become a member of the DEC for 2015.  A delicious lunch provided by Shorty’s Catering is included and available from noon to 2:00 pm.

Members are welcome to set up a table or tack swap/sale. In addition, a demonstration on “Biomechanics of Balance Saddles” will be offered by Mary Bashtarz with “Riding by Design” at 1:30 pm.

Door prize drawings to win a free hoof trimming donated by Barbara Dixon or a one hour saddle consultation with Mary Bashtarz will be given away

Delaware Equine Council Scholarship Applications Due January 31

 The Delaware Equine Council offeres one or more scholarships annually to those who meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, or a legal resident alien
  • Must be a Delaware resident or DEC member. ($10.00 for individual membership)
  • Must be enrolled and in good standing at an agricultural or equine course of study or related field, or a veterinary or vet tech program in the United States
  • Must have completed, or are about to complete, one full semester.

In addition, you must include a transcript of one full semester of grades along with the completed apoplication and a 250-word typed essay on the topic of “How I Plan to Use This Course of Study to Further the Equine or Agricultural Industry.”
