The Kent County Master Gardeners are planning a series of workshops for the community from September through November. Classes are held at the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension Office, Paradee Center, 69 Transportation Circle, Dover. Contact the Extension Office at 302-730-4000 to register. The Fall Garden – Free
Thursday, September 21, 2017 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the U.D. Paradee Center
At last, the weather is starting to cool down and we can garden in comfort! What, garden in the fall? Many plants need to grow in cool weather, some of our tastiest vegetables and flowers for next spring need to be planted now. Join Kent Maser Gardener, Bev Gemmill, for some season extending tops and learn about the plants that love cold weather.
Cooking from the Fall Garden – Fee: $5
Wednesday, September 27, 2017 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. at the U.D. Paradee Center
This demonstration provides ideas for how to use produce that is in season in your diet. Healthy preparation techniques and recipes will be shared by New Castle Master Food Educator, Karen Sommers. Participants will get to taste a delicious recipe that uses fall vegetables.
Dividing Perennials – Free
Thursday, October 5, 2017 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. at the U.D. Paradee Center
Kent Master Gardener, Kate Ruffer, will demonstrate how to divide hostas, daylilies, ferns, and irises as a useful practice to help rejuvenate as well as propagate plants. Feel free to bring containers to take some home! Participants are encouraged to bring their own plants to divide as well as work gloves, old steak knives, and dinner forks which prove to be helpful too.
Centerpieces for Thanksgiving – Fee: $15, Limit: 20 participants
Friday, November 17, 2017 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the U.D. Paradee Center
Join Kent Master Gardener, Wendy Aycoth, as you learn how to make a beautiful centerpiece for Thanksgiving. This hands-on workshop will require you to bring a good pair of shears. The container and flowers will be provided. Feel free to bring along any additional decorations like cattails, dried wheat, artificial fruit/vegetables, ribbon, or candles for your centerpiece.
