Meadow Installation:  A Hands-On Experience, $15
June 11, 4-6 pm, Credits: 1 Nut. Mgmt., 1 Pest., 1 CNP, University of Delaware Botanic Gardens, 531 S College Avenue, Newark, DE. Meet at the entrance to Fischer Greenhouse                  Let’s do it!  Participate in an actual meadow installation.  We’ll discuss the environmental benefits, site selection, and soil and seed bed preparation. Attendees will participate in mixing and distributing the seed mix. This workshop is offered at the UD Botanic Gardens.  Instructors: Sue Barton and Valann Budischak


Pest and Beneficial Insect Walk $15
June 5, 4-6:30 pm, Credits: 2 ISA, 2 Pest., 1 CNP, Sussex County Extension Office, 16483 County Seat Highway, Georgetown
Learn to identify insect and disease pests, as well as beneficial insects in the landscape at the Sussex County Extension Office. Learn about pests on ash trees, and how to differentiate between common and invasive insects such as borers.  Instructors: Nancy Gregory, Brian Kunkel, and Tracy Wootten

Find out what signs and symptoms are used to identify pests and diseases. Walk followed by microscopic examination of specimens in Room 012 Townsend Hall, 531 S College Avenue, Newark, DE.  Instructors: Nancy Gregory, Brian Kunkel, and Carrie Murphy

We’d like to make continuing education training as easy as possible for you and your staff. If you have 10 or more people, we will conduct a workshop at your site. Here are the topics we are suggesting:

Soil Health: Soil improvement is an ongoing process – discover options available to you. This session will cover soil amendments with the emphasis on compost! Instructors: Carrie Murphy, Tracy Wootten

HORT 101: Learn the basics of landscape management. This course is a good starting point in studying for the Certified Nursery Professional exam or a good way to expose new employees to the foundations of landscaping. Instructor: Susan Barton

Sustainable Landscaping: Shift your focus from traditional high-maintenance landscapes to natural, low-maintenance and environmentally sensitive landscapes. Instructor: Susan Barton

Arthropod Abundance: Learn about some management options of the most common arthropods encountered in the landscape, nursery, or greenhouses. Take the time to learn how to I.D. beneficial arthropods from damaging pests and those nuisance or incidental pests. Instructor: Brian Kunkel

Make Your Own Workshop: If there is a topic you want to offer to your staff, contact us and we will try to work with you on developing a workshop that meets your needs.

Cost is $50, plus $10/person. Scheduling is based on the availability of the instructor with expertise in the topic you choose. Pesticide and/or nutrient management credits may be available, depending on the course(s) selected.
