Greenhouse Integrated Pest Management (IPM)                 $15

Saturday, March 7, 9- 11:30 AM                                                        Credits:  2 Pest., 1 CNP Fischer Greenhouse, 531 S College Avenue, Newark This greenhouse workshop will provide greenhouse managers an opportunity to learn about a variety of common pests and their management.  There will be samples of various pests to examine under microscopes.  Instructor: Brian Kunkel

In cooperation with the City of Newark, Parks Department, to identify insects, diseases, and beneficial insects in the landscape, along a trail in City parkland. Park at the front of the New Castle County Cooperative Extension Office and meet in the Master Gardeners’ demonstration garden. We’d like to make continuing education training as easy as possible for you and your staff. If you have 10 or more people, we will conduct a workshop at your site. Here are the topics we are suggesting for 2014:

Soil Health: Soil improvement is an ongoing process – discover options available to you. This session will cover soil amendments with the emphasis on compost! Instructors: Carrie Murphy, Tracy Wootten

HORT 101: Learn the basics of landscape management. This course is a good starting point in studying for the Certified Nursery Professional exam or a good way to expose new employees to the foundations of landscaping. Instructor: Susan Barton

Landscaping with an Environmental Focus: Shift your focus from traditional high-maintenance landscapes to natural, low-maintenance and environmentally sensitive landscapes. Instructors: Susan Barton, Carrie Murphy

Arthropod Abundance: Learn about some management options of the most common arthropods encountered in the landscape, nursery, or greenhouses. Take the time to learn how to I.D. beneficial arthropods from damaging pests and those nuisance or incidental pests. Instructor: Brian Kunkel

Make Your Hiring Efforts Count: Are your employees meeting your expectations? Clear, concise job descriptions help both employers and potential employees ensure a good match, and provide a benchmark to measure job performance.  Instructor: Valann Budischak

Make Your Own Workshop: If there is a topic you want to offer to your staff, contact us and we will try to work with you on developing a workshop that meets your needs.

Cost is $50, plus $10/person. Scheduling is based on availability of the instructor with expertise in the topic you choose. Pesticide and/or nutrient management credits may be available, depending on the course(s) selected.
