Additional WNV Positive Tests from Sentinel Chickens

The Delaware Department of Agriculture State Veterinarian Dr. Heather Hirst, DVM has announced that 4 additional sentinel chickens have tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV).  Blood samples from the affected birds were obtained for testing purposes on September 21, 2014.  The sentinel birds were located in Cool Springs, Delaware Park, Cherry Island and Colonial Heights.  Horse owners and caretakers should be sure that equine vaccinations are current.  For more information on WNV and strategies for prevention, please visit a previous blog post http://extold.anr.udel.edu/equine/2013/08/23/protect-your-horses-from-west-nile-virus/
