Delaware produce growers will have four opportunities for food safety training in 2013, offered by the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension and Delaware Department of Agriculture, with support from the Delaware Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association. Sessions begin in March and registrations are being accepted at this time.
Basic training for certification will be held in each county for those who have not yet attended the voluntary GAP/GHP (Good Agricultural Practices/Good Handling Practices) training sessions. Update sessions will be held for those who have already completed the previous training, to provide an update on new rules from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). A special session for farmers market managers will also be held. In addition, a previously announced certification program for on-farm food entrepreneurs is being offered.
